Cityheart Celebrates Opening of Student Accommodation

The official opening of Blackfriars Residence took place on Tuesday 22nd of August, during student vacation.

Phase 1 consisting of 295 rooms was provided for University of Gloucestershire and completed in 2018. The second phase provided a further 190 rooms on same site for Hartpury University.

MM Management Services represented Cityheart as employer’s agent, initially under a design and build contract with Midas Construction. Following the demise of Midas Construction into administration, Cityheart had to quickly move to a Construction Management contract, appointing Vitruvius Management Services as their Construction Manager, a move that allowed the rooms to be complete in time for the 2022/23 student intake.

Mark McNamee, Managing Director of Cityheart comments: “This is a fantastic scheme that significantly enhances the local built environment, improving a previously neglected part of the town and we have received very positive feedback in response to the completed project.”

Richard Graham CMG MP for Gloucester adds: “It is great to see this new student accommodation now completed & looking great in the city centre with 500 students expected to have moved in by September.”

Cityheart Ltd was appointed the preferred strategic development partner for the scheme by the University of Gloucestershire in 2016.
